| Mock Auditions with Gayletha Nichols from the Metropolitan Opera, NY
Gayletha Nichols is the Director of the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions (MONC). In this class, Ms. Nichols will conduct mock auditions in which each student will have the opportunity to present their repertory “package” in an audition setting and get feedback on their presentation.
Ms. Nichols joined the artistic staff of the Metropolitan Opera in the fall of 2000 as Executive Director of the National Council Auditions.
She brought to the Met two decades of experience as a singer, teacher and career advisor. From 1992-2000, she was Director of Houston Opera Studio, the young artist development program at Houston Grand Opera, where she created and individualized the training both for singers and pianists. During the 2001-2002 and 2002-2003 seasons, she was director of both the Lindemann Young Artist Development Program and MONC.
Ms. Nichols auditions hundreds of singers across North America every year and in her travels addresses many universities, conservatories, and festivals on developing the next generation of opera singers. She is a frequent adjudicator in national and international competitions and consults for other young artist programs across the country.
The mock auditions will take place at the Accademia Europea di Firenze in July and
November and the AEF will organize a concert. After a pre-selection from the AEF’s staff, Ms. Nichols will come from New York to conduct her mock auditions course and for the final selection of the singers that will actually perform at this concert.
