30 Contact Hours and 15 Hours of Independent Studies
In this course, students with little or no painting experience will be introduced to the fundamentals of painting from life. Students will emerge from the course with an understanding of colour theory, palette and colour correspondence, and the relation between intent, image and technique.
Through regular projects and exercises, issues of tonality, figure/ground and composition will be addressed, in addition to glazing and "alla prima" techniques. Each student will focus on enhancing technical ability so that their painting skills may be utilized as a means of expressing individual and personal ideas and concepts. We will also discuss practical and theoretical matters related to the practice of painting as a perceptive act.
