Accademia Europea di Firenze offers semester-long academic courses constituting transferable credits. Each course has 45 contact hours, which corresponds to 4 credits. It is also required to take an Italian Language Course of 180 or 72 hours; for these courses the amount of credits given varies according to each University. The Italian language courses are open to anyone from first-time speakers to near fluent speakers. All other courses are taught in English.
The AEF is dedicated to teaching the Arts and Sciences and is divided in four departments:
The disciplines offered by AEF are connected with the cultural heritage of Florence and its impact on European history. This cultural heritage has spread the fundamental principles of the modern arts and sciences throughout all of Europe. Our students will have a profound and detailed study of these disciplines by the end of their semester. With a rapidly growing sense of globalization prevalent in society, understanding the heritage and interconnectedness of Western history is crucial for students.
To offer challenging academic programs, we provide excellent professional and academic facilities to our students. Art and music studios with detailed personal instruction give students a sense of importance and purpose. AEF is committed to creating an academic and professional atmosphere to maximize the development of students, maintained by the highest qualified faculty to analyze any single feature and discipline.
At AEF, teachers strive to teach students with verbalization in the classroom and through real life experience. For example, the Art History program is beloved by all students because the class is taken on field trips in Florence, Venice, Bologna, and other cities in Italy, to some of the most beautiful cathedrals and museums in the world. This speaks to a larger philosophy of teaching and learning with an enthusiastic, loving to learn attitude. AEF also works with various Florentine institutions, several concerts, exhibitions, and other public events where the arts and music students will share their experiences with the local population and with the other students of the school. AEF also offers group trips to different culturally significant events such as cooking classes, government buildings, and we even have our own soccer team each semester. The point is to build a cohesive and deep educational experience, rather than an unorganized trip with some required courses. This will enhance any student’s overall study abroad experience.
The Study Abroad Department of your University can contact us for more details through our contact form and we are also open to create new programs or courses tailor-made for groups coming from your University.
To improve and integrate one's academic career with a period of study abroad represents a very important decision for each student to be made with the utmost care and consideration and that is often influenced by many factors, such as the prestige of the institution selected, the city where this is based and its teaching standards.
The Accademia Europea di Firenze (European Academy of Florence) was founded by an experienced group of professors sharing the desire to teach in a different kind of school where students could truly and always be the focus of teaching and extracurricular activities. This is why we founded the Accademia, always focusing on the points which make us stand out over other institutions and schools.
8 GOOD REASONS FOR CHOOSING AEF
AEF was founded in 2004 by a group of teachers with long-standing experience in the field, who decided to put together their know-how and professional skills.
Over the years, AEF has been able to stand out in the market thanks to the strong skills of its teaching staff and to its modern teaching methods that place the student and his needs at the heart of teaching, both in class and during extracurricular activities.
AEF teachers are trained and experienced professionals who are constantly updated on the latest teaching methods and who are able to ensure on-going attention to the functional aspects of all subjects taught and to the needs that are behind their natural and active learning: from literature to Italian, from art and music. Thanks to its high quality teaching standards, AEF is the school that has mostly grown in Florence in recent years though without losing its familiar, cheerful and pleasant atmosphere that is part of the school activities and that has always characterized its educational mission.

The lessons of the academic courses are taught in English by native speakers or bilingual teachers. Classroom learning is supported for each subject by practical experiences and activities in order to make students experience directly what they are learning. All curricula include a required course in Italian language based on the harmonious development of the four basic language skills - listening, speaking, reading and writing - since an experience abroad must necessarily include learning, albeit at a basic level, the host country's language.
The academic courses are divided into four departments:
• ARTS AND HUMANITIES • FASHION • LANGUAGE • SOCIAL SCIENCES
This division is not random: indeed, these subjects reached their heyday in Florence during the Renaissance which, as pointed out by Giorgio Vasari, represented "a new era of rebirth and regeneration of mankind." This assumption led to the studying of nature along with that of art, literature and music. For this reason, to choose AEF means to be able to study today, in the historic centre of Florence, the subjects that have made Italy famous over the centuries all over the world.
Students can create their own curriculum, combining required courses with the additional courses offered by AEF that are designed to suit every need: Italian, music, culture courses and many other courses complete a rich and varied educational and training offer. At the end of each course and after passing a test, students receive a certificate of attendance indicating the level reached.
The Accademia's headquarters are in the heart of Florence, just a few steps from Piazza Duomo and very close to the train station Santa Maria Novella, in a strategic location for people coming from all over the city thanks to the bus stops nearby and to the Tramway stop at the train station. The branch office is located a few steps from Ponte Vecchio and Piazza della Signoria and this office too, other than being in the historic centre, is in a unique location and is very easy to reach. Both locations have been carefully chosen in order to make sure that, when leaving the school, the student is directly surrounded by the city's many beautiful monuments; moreover, being in highly prestigious areas, animated by an intense commercial and cultural life until late at night, they guarantee extra safety to students attending the school.
Extracurricular activities are an integral part of the courses; therefore students, whilst having fun, have the opportunity of practising the language with greater ease and of acquiring a significant cultural enrichment other than better interacting with the local community. For this reason, in addition to regular courses, AEF offers a rich and varied programme of optional activities that facilitate the student's life, especially in the initial period. Several proposals are offered, ranging from the organization of cultural activities - visits to museums in Florence and Tuscany, conferences, theme-based meetings - up to leisure activities - food and wine tours, festivals and sporting events - that cover the entire week, so that students can constantly practice the language in all its aspects. These activities are essential and help create the relaxed and friendly atmosphere that involves students, teachers and staff and that facilitates the continuous monitoring of each student's progress.
The educational activities offered by the Accademia Europea di Firenze are recognized by many organizations and institutions at national and international level: this demonstrates that the school has been able to create broad and structured educational services. The Accademia Europea di Firenze is a: - Training and Educational Agency accredited with the Tuscany region (accreditation code number FI0720);
- Member of WYSE (World Youth Student & Educational Travel)
- Member of ALTO - Association of Language Travel Organizations;
lastly, - It has recently obtained the ISO 9001 Quality Certification.
